I've read the process for reducing the size of a base ring; however, the base ring I have is really hard to pull apart. I'm afraid I might break it. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Try twisting the tubing a bit as you pull it apart. It may just be a vaccum created by the tubing on the connection.

I tried that. It won't budge. I am worried the rubber tube will tear. Will the electrical connection get messed up if I tear it?
The entire ring is conductive silicone. There is no internal wiring to damage. That is why it can be trimmed.
You should be able to just pull it apart. Hold the connector in one hand and grip the tubing as close to the connector as you can, then pull. Dont' worry about being too rough.
If you are opening it to trim it, then having a little bit tear off shouldn't hurt things. You'll just want to smooth the edges so it fits tight against the brass connector before actually using it.
Both sides of tubing disconnect from the brass piece by the way. There is no glue used so most likely the lube used to slide it on in assembly has simply made things a little harder to pull apart.
I hope this helps.
