I tried to find the information using Search, but to no avail. Therefore here now my question:

How do you avoid the risk of infections when inserting into the urethra? What do you use to sterilise the toy and the area surrounding the urethral opening?

Thanks for your answer!

I don't encourage the use of the urethral items if you have little to no experience with 'sound' or urethral play without electricity.

Typically, I recommend researching this kind of play and using similar cleansing techniques as those who do sound or urethral play on a regular basis.

Also, it should be pointed out that urethral play is risky and the chances of having an infection at least once is highly likely.

This being said, we recommend cleaning your urethral toys in 10% bleach & 90% water. Rinse, then wash again using an anti-bacterial soap. As we repeatedly state, do not share these toys. It just isn't safe. We encourage you to use sterile lubricant. Also, you will want to cleanse the penis and the urethral opening as well as your hands and to wear gloves. There are those who use iodine wipes and there are those who use alcohol wipes. Alcohol wipes should work for most though. But you can then wipe the urethral opening before play (and before adding lubricant) and also use a wipe to wipe down your toy.

After play, drink plenty of fluids, especially cranberry juice, and urinate to help flush your system.

I hope this helps some. As I keep saying, don't do it until you research it. Urethral play is not for the novice.

I cleaned my PES products with 10% bleach and water. To disinfect them I let them soak over night in the solution. I then took them out and rinsed them but did not throughly dry them. When I looked at them a day or so later there was some green residue on the low profile connection points. Everything washed off but the polished aluminum ball on the prostate stimulator is no longer shinny, it is a dark color. Have I damaged it? What about the other electrodes?

If you re-read the literature that comes with the electrodes you'll notice it says do not soak. And as a side note, bleach looses its effectiveness after about ten or twenty minutes so soaking items in it isn't going to sterilize it any more than simply cleaning it and making sure you've washed away all the residue of your fun like the ejaculate & lubricant. And then wiping it down with something like alcohol or using the pjur wipes.

As for the connection points and the prostate ball, you can use brasso to clean the low profile connection points as they are brass and the prostate ball would simply need to be buffed or cleaned with something that can remove the residue from the aluminum. Then wash them and don't soak them. Use alcohol to wipe them down after washing them and drying them.

I hope this helped!

Note: "Urethral play is not for the novice." Chase Union has on its site the best info I've found on the subjects of Cleaning - http://www.chaseunion.com/documents/safety/sterile0.htm
and Urethral Insertion -- http://www.chaseunion.com/documents/urethra/index.html. I would strongly advise anyone interested in urethral play, or in learning more about cleaning/sterilization (NOTE: These are 2 different things!!) to read the sections cited above!

The reader will note that these topics are written from the standpoint of BDSM dungeon--dungeon-master use--and are therefore necessarily more stringent than would probably be required for safe home use when not shared with others!
